How Sugar Impacts Dental Health?
It is a fact that your mouth has several bacteria, some of them are good, and some are bad. One type of bad bacteria is Streptococcus mutans that feeds on sugar you consume and forms dental plaque that is colorless and sticky. It is hard to wash away this plaque, and it is not easily removed by saliva or brushing. If it’s not removed, the plaque turns to acid and dissolves the enamel of your teeth. When enamel dissolves, it can lead to the development of holes or cavities which is said to be the beginning of tooth decay.
When tooth decay remains unchecked, it not only harms the enamel but progresses to harm deeper layers of the tooth and might reach the pulp of the tooth as well. If that stage is reached, the tooth might become infected, you may suffer from a lot of pain, and it can lead to tooth loss as well.
